Making Construction Fun Again:
Structural Support For Those Building Our World

About the Book
“It’s just not fun anymore.”
If you’ve ever heard this—or thought it yourself—you’re not alone. From project managers to tradespeople, in jobsites, offices, and design studios across the country, many of us in the construction industry are asking the same thing: Why isn’t this fun anymore?
This is the question at the heart of Making Construction Fun Again: Structural Support for Those Building Our World.
With years of experience as a construction project manager and now as a consultant supporting everyone from boots-on-the-ground field crews to industry executives, Amy Powell brings firsthand insight into the real challenges shaping our daily work. Drawing from her personal journey and the voices of respected peers nationwide, she explores this question through tough stories, historical context, a field-tested framework, and a refreshing dose of humor.
By focusing on the core of construction—the human element—she reveals how we can restore pride, teamwork, and camaraderie without sugarcoating the tough stuff. Whether you’re a seasoned superintendent, a brand-new intern, or in a design, management, or support role, you’ll discover how personal growth, authentic connection, and an intentional mindset can bring back the fun and fulfillment a career in construction was always meant to offer.

About the Author
Amy Powell
Amy Powell is the founder and CEO of Well Works, a company devoted to developing and delivering essential “people” skills programs, workshops, training, coaching, and consulting for professionals working in or partnering with the construction industry.
With over two decades of construction experience, Amy has served as a project manager at a wonderful mid-sized commercial general contractor. Her husband (and Well Works Co-Owner), Matt Powell, is also a construction professional with more than 25 years in the industry with roles ranging from laborer to executive management. Much of his experience being in the subcontractor realm. Over the last 18 years of their marriage, they’ve often found themselves chatting about the construction world after work—conversations that were anything but boring. Little did they realize those late-night talks were quietly shaping the unique skills, insights, and perspectives that ultimately inspired them to launch Well Works and write this book.
